Community Service

Sr. Carmen Baca Service Award

I was awarded the Sr. Carmen Baca Service Award at my high school graduation ceremony for my overwhelming passion and commitment to serving others in my school and community. This award was not only an honor to receive, but it was also significant for me to accept because Sr. Carmen was my elementary and middle school nun who started my interest in community service.

Costa Rica Service Trip (July 2023)

I traveled to La Fortuna, Costa Rica for one week with Rustic Pathways on their Pura Vida Service Trip. Helped the local school by building a preschool, freshening up the walls with paint, and participating in activities (cultural exchanges, exercise activities, and arts and crafts) with the children. Also worked with One Million Trees to clean up and plant new trees in the local rainforest and nature reserve.

National Charity League

I participated in the National Charity League for 6 years (since I was in 7th grade til my senior year in high school!). It’s a mother/daughter charity organization that volunteers at events in our local community. We feed the homeless, make meals for veterans, and help out at charity events such as our local rodeo. One of my favorite things I did through NCL is called RAVE. I volunteered with kids with disabilities, giving their parents a night off. I love giving back to my community and making a positive difference.

Youth Ministry Charity Work

I work with my church to do service, bible study events, and serve lunches to the homeless. I love how my faith encourages me to do good in the world.

Belize Trip (July 2022)

I went with my high school on a mission trip to Belize. I played with kids and read them books as well as painted a church! This summer I am going to Costa Rica through Rustic Pathways to do service work.

Belize

I was awarded the rose bud award three times from President Biden for volunteering over 50 hours through the National Charity League!

Indiana University Civic Leaders Program

During the summer of my junior year of high school, I was chosen to participate in Civic Leaders Summer Scholars Program at Indiana University. Every day we had lectures about advocacy and talked about what it means to be active in a community. We volunteered at the Hoosier Hills Food Bank and packed 160 boxes of food.
